Dota 2

Dota is a competitive game of action and strategy, played both professionally and casually by millions of passionate fans worldwide.  Players pick from a pool of over a hundred heroes, forming two teams of five players.  Radiant heroes then battle their Dire counterparts to control a gorgeous fantasy landscape, waging campaigns of cunning, stealth, and outright warfare. What’s unique about Dota 2:

  • Involved and interactive community: With over 3,000,000+ unique players monthly1, avid fans also contribute through the Dota Workshop2 where graphic developers can submit custom 3D models that are incorporated into the game and earn a split of sales from the in-game store.  Players also connect outside of the game through online discussion (42nd most active subforum on Reddit3) and not to mention all of the amazing fan-art
  • Strong developer backing and track record: The original Dota has been around since 2003; Dota 2 is developed by Valve Corporation, an award-winning game producer with successful titles including Half Life®, Counter-Strike®, and Portal™.  Valve also hosts Dota 2’s largest annual tournament, “The International.”  Dota 2 is technically still in “Early Access” stage, meaning the game hasn’t official been released to the open public.  It is accessed via the Steam® client, which also provides community, social entertainment and video/mobile content.
  • Free-to-play: Receiving a Dota 2 invite is as easy as signing up for a Steam® account; NO pay-to-win features; extremely high replay value with deep and complex gameplay; difficult, yet tremendously rewarding learning curve.
  • Dota 2 commerce: Players purchase cosmetic enhancements of varying levels of ‘rarity’ for their favorite heroes via The Dota Store4; tickets/subscriptions to watch dozens of tournaments around the world are also for sale.
  • E-sports: Dota 2 is one of the most popular and well-supported e-sport titles.  Valve-backed annual tournament “The International” will be hosted in Seattle’s Benaroya Symphony Hall from August 7th-11th, 2013.  This year’s prize pool of $1.6 million is increasing daily with proceeds from player purchases.  The competition will be broadcasted by professional commentators and analysts from around the world and supported by live attendees – tickets were sold out within minutes of release.
