Obviously the changes to the Twitch VoD system will mean the catalog would start disappearing for games & videos older than 60 days if we don’t do something about it.
First of all let me say we really appreciate all the messages you guys have sent through the contact form informing us about the new 60 day policy and wondering if we’ll do something to make sure the videos don’t get lost. It’s really awesome to hear the catalog is serving its purpose in either teaching you Merlini’s ways (bots midas every hero) or just entertaining you guys!
The most likely option at the moment is mass exporting everything to YouTube. The main question is how long it will take and if it’s something we can automate after. The catalog currently works by matching timestamps from the Steam API to those from Twitch VoDs to allow you to skip right to the point in the video where Merlini is playing the hero you selected. Transferring that to YouTube isn’t too difficult as YouTube allows you to skip to timestamps as well, the only thing I haven’t looked into is the automated process of exporting from Twitch to YouTube.
I’ll keep you all updated on the progress of the catalog transfer, although it’s unfortunate that we have to do this, the upside is that YouTube’s embedded player is an absolute joy compared to the one from Twitch, so perhaps this will work out for the best in the end!
Stay awesome folks.
